Hamilton County commissioners on Wednesday approved a resolution to help with Cincinnati Union Terminal’s renovation and upkeep.

The county administrator will work with Cincinnati Museum Center, which occupies the historic West End building, on preservation issues, including:

• Developing a capital funding plan to continue repairs on the the building;

• Determining whether stimulus funds could be obtained for critical repair projects;

• Getting assistance from the Metropolitan Sewer District to install “green” roofs;

• Reviewing what upkeep services the county might provide for the publicly owned building.

“We are very pleased with the commissioners’ commitment to this public treasure,” said Douglass McDonald, president and CEO of the Museum Center, in a news release.

In 2008, the Museum Center announced a multimillion-dollar restoration project, beginning by using state funds to repair the building's roof and windows.

Opened in 1933, Cincinnati Union Terminal was originally a train station. It now houses the Museum Center, which includes the Cincinnati History Museum, Duke Energy Children’s Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the Robert D. Lindner Family Omnimax Theater and the Cincinnati Historical Society Library.
